I gave a similar response when there was a group of 8 assassins who poofed out like that on my priest asking for buffs... o.O; But at least they were rather friendly.
When I first tried playing RO, my brother told me to follow one of his friends around, so I could get the gist of it while my brother was AFK~... The guy disappeared, and I got lost and died. ^^;
